"The Thrill Is Gone" adalah lagu bergenre blues dengan tempo lambat dan kunci minor ciptaan musisi pembawa subgenre West Coast blues bernama Roy Hawkins dan Rick Darnell tepatnya tahun 1951.[1] Rekaman lagu versi Hawkins mencapai peringkat ke-6 dalam tangga lagu Billboard R&B tahun 1951.[2] Pada tahun 1970, "The Thrill Is Gone" versi rekaman B.B. King menjadi hit besar. Versi B.B. King adalah salah satu lagu bergenre blues yang sangat populer (blues standard).[3]

Versi B.B. King

B.B. King merekam versi "The Thrill Is Gone" pada bulan Juni 1969 untuk albumnya yang bertajuk Completely Well yang dirilis tahun 1969 juga. Versi rekaman King dimainkan dengan tempo lambat, memakai progresi akor blues 12 birama, menggunakan notasi kunci B minor, dan tanda biramanya adalah 4/4.[4] Versi B.B. King mempunyai alat produksi musik yang lebih terawat dan juga menggunakan alat-alat musik dawai, sehingga menjadi lagu dengan gaya yang berbeda dengan lagu sebelumnya B.B. King sekaligus lagu versi ini berbeda gaya pula dengan versi asli Roy Hawkins.
