Peasant Woman Digging (A Woman with a Spade, Seen From Behind) is an oil painting by Vincent van Gogh. It is in the collection of Art Gallery of Ontario.
It is oil on canvas mounted on panel. It is 41.7 x 32.3 centimeters.[1]
It was painted in Nuenen, in July, 1885. It is part of a series of paintings of peasants, in Nuenen, where he lived for two years.[2][3][4][5]
Other examples are at the Art Institute of Chicago,[6] Van Gogh Museum,[7] Kröller-Müller Museum,[8][9] and Barber Institute of Fine Arts,[10][11]
Exhibition history
It was exhibited at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in 1999, Frist Art Museum in 2001, Appleton Art Museum in 2001, Zacks Galleries in 2006.
