Ines Kostić (born 21 October 1984) is a Bosnian-born Dutch political scientist and politician of the Party for the Animals (PvdD), who has served as a member of the Provincial Council of North Holland since 2019, and as a member of the House of Representatives since 2023.[1] They are the first non-binary person to have been elected into the House of Representatives.[2]
Biography
Kostić was born in Mostar in present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina into a multiethnic family of Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks.[3] At the age of 10, they fled the Bosnian War with their parents, seeking refuge in the Netherlands.[4] Kostić obtained a bachelor's degree in art, culture and media studies from the University of Groningen.[1] They subsequently completed a master's programme in political science at the University of Antwerp.[1]
In May 2017, Kostić became a board member of the Animal Politics Foundation – the international branch of the Party for the Animals.[1] They won a seat in the provincial council of North Holland in the 2019 provincial election, and were re-elected in the 2023 provincial election.[1] On 22 November 2023, Kostić ran in the snap general election as the second candidate on the PvdD list, and was elected into the House of Representatives.[5] They were installed as MP on 6 December 2023.[1]
