Belaichhari (Bengali: বিলাইছড়ি) is an upazila of Rangamati District in the division of Chittagong, Bangladesh.[1]

Geography

Belaichari is located at 22°28′00″N 92°22′30″E / 22.4667°N 92.3750°E / 22.4667; 92.3750. It has a total area 745.91 km2. Belaichhari is bordered by Rangamati Sadar upazila to the north, Kaptai and Rajasthali upazilas to the west, Bandarban district to the south, and Juraichhari upazila, the Indian state of Mizoram and Chin State of Myanmar to the east.

As of the 2011 Bangladeshi census, Belaichhari upazila had 6,063 households and a population of 28,525. 7,607 (26.67%) were under 10 years of age. Belaichhari had an average literacy rate of 32.8%, compared to the national average of 51.8%, and a sex ratio of 880 females per 1000 males. 2,458 (8.62%) of the population lived in urban areas.[2] The ethnic population was 24,707 (86.62%), of which Tanchangya were 11,480, Chakma 7,359 and Marma 2,704.[3]

Administration

Belaichari Upazila is divided into three union parishads: Belaichari, Farua, and Kengrachari. The union parishads are subdivided into 9 mauzas and 59 villages.[2]
